Trip Overview
Tiji festival trek is a fascinating annual festival of Mustang region of Nepal consisting of Tibetan rituals that celebrate the month of May for the myth of a son who had saved Mustang kingdom from mass destruction. Tiji is indigenous of Lo-Manthang and Upper Mustang. During this festival, monks dressed in elaborate costumes and masks perform dances and rituals that are used to drive away evil spirits. The Tiji festival programs are organized by the Choedhe monastery, which belongs to Sakya sects of Buddhism. The head of this monastery and the programs run by a Rimpoche and about 65 monks from Lo-Manthang, Nhenyul, and Chhosyer reside in this monastery. This festival is celebrated for the victory of Good over Evil and runs for over 3 days dancing by local monks of Choedhe monastery on Lo-Manthang. This festival is the main and huge festival of the land beyond the mountains consisting of Tibetan influences. For this 3 days festival, there will be dances and story drama types where we can learn about the importance of the festivals how god defeated and got victory over evil.
