Trip Overview

The Lumbini tour is a popular religious tour to explore historical sites and birth place of Lord Buddha. It is located on a southwestern Nepal, enlisted in the World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Lumbini is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautam (Gautam Buddha) in 563 BC. It covers 1.95-hector land area and 150 m elevation from sea level. Lumbini is the greatest Buddhist pilgrimage site where thousands of people come and explore this historical place. The place has various ancient artifacts illustrating the life of Buddha in Lumbini. A pond where Buddha was bathed after he was born and the famous Mayadevi temple all lies here. Lumbini Garden is a main fascinating place in Lumbini travel. It is taken as a holy place, which is surrounded by several temples and monasteries. Some of them were built in the mediaeval period. Ashoka Pillar, built in the garden around 250 BC by the great emperor Ashoka, includes the inscription about the birth record of Buddha.

To pay homage to the Lord Buddha, the followers from different countries have built many international temples. They are fine works of arts and rich architecture. Lumbini encompasses three zones each covering one square mile connected by walkways and canal. The Lumbini Buddhist circuit goes through Tilaurakot, Kudan, Niglihawa, Gotihawa, Sagarhawa, Aurorakot, Devdaha and Ramagrama, all bearing significance to the life, enlightenment, and death of Buddha.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Lumbini

We start our scenic drive to Lumbini. It takes about 6-7 hours from Pokhara. Now we are entering into the Terai region, which is a flat land. The climatic is generally warm and humid. After a long drive we arrive at Lumbini. Check-in to hotel and have a rest. A brief sightseeing trip to the surrounded area.

Day 2: Exploration Day

After the breakfast you will meet the guide, which will give a briefing about the Lumbini and the history of it. We’ll explore Kapilvastu, where Lord Buddha was born around 6th century BC, ancient heritages and Buddhist Monasteries for the whole day. It has got long history related to Buddhism and many records are still preserved safely in the museum. And we’ll see more 15 monasteries build by 15 different nation in different style and have lunch somewhere where our guide takes us and then again drive about 30 minutes to Tilaurakot which is 30 km far from Lumbini. Tilaurakot is the place where buddha was grown and spent his childhood with his friend. Lumbini Garden, the Mayadevi Temple, Pushkarni Pool and other various temples built by the followers of Lord Buddha are the major attractions of Lumbini excursion. Return back to the hotel.

Day 3: Return back to Pokhara

After breakfast at hotel, we drive back to Pokhara for about 6-7 hours. This is a scenic drive with Himalayan views, Rivers and Jungles. After the arrival in Pokhara, you will be transferred to the hotel. Walk around the local market in the evening.
