DASHAIN: FESTIVAL OF VICTORY OF GOOD OVER EVIL
Dashain is a festival celebrated by the Hindus of Nepal, India and among Lhotshampa of Bhutan and the Burmees Gorkha of Myanmaar.

This festival is the longest and the most auspicious festival in the Hindu calender of Ashwin( September-October), celebrated by the Nepalese people in Nepal and around the globe. People return back to their homeland from all parts of the world, as well as from different parts of the world to celebrate together. All government offices, educational institutions, and other offices remain closed during the festival period. The festival falls in September or October, starting from Sukhla Pakha(bright lunar fortnight) of the Ashwin and ending on Purnima, the full moon. Among the fifteen days on it is celebrated, the most important days are 1st, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 15th. This festival is celebrated as a symbol when Goddess”Durga” killed the demon called “Mahishasur” on the 10th day of the longest fight between God and demon. That’s why, Hindu celebrate on the 10th day as Dashain.

Another story behind the Dashami in India is that “Lord Rama” killed “Demon RAvana” on the 10th day of the war. To celebrate the Victory over Demon, Dashami is celebrates. On the 10th day of Dashain, younger put Tika and Jamara( baby grass of various mixed grains) from elders and give blessing to be safe and prosperious with the gratitutes like money, fruits and sweets. So, Dashain is celebrated as a symbol of victory by goods over evils. Stay safe, healthy and prosperous.
